Welcome to our virtual tour of the Presbyterian Hemby Intensive Care Nursery. We hope you enjoy the tour. To begin, select a specific view from the pulldown menu below, or if you prefer, click the "Start Tour" button for a full tour.
Hemby ICN recently moved inside Presbyterian Women's Center and is now centrally-located with Presbyterian Hospital's other maternity services. Designated as a Level IV nursery by the state of North Carolina, Hemby ICN provides all sub-specialty services and can care for all babies. Hemby ICN features the most current medical technology, including new cardiopulmonary monitoring equipment.
Hemby ICN is staffed 24/7 by a multi-disciplinary team comprised of neonatologists, registered nurses, respiratory therapists and neonatal nurse practitioners. Additionally, a discharge planning nurse, social worker, occupational therapist, nutritionist, pharmacist and speech therapist staff the nursery to provide expert care for each baby.
Hemby ICN has 38 intensive care nursery beds, two isolation rooms and a sophisticated procedure room. Decorated in soft colors that are developmentally-stimulating to babies, the nursery features an abundance of natural lighting to provide a warm, home-like environment for babies and their families. Halogen and mood lighting prevent babies from having direct light over their heads.
The beds are arranged in a pod system, which creates more privacy for patients and families. Pods are positioned so that there are only four to six babies in each area, and dividers and curtains separate each pod. Hemby ICN also features a respiratory lab, on-site pharmacy, separate nutrition room, three breastfeeding/pumping rooms and a laundry area.
Parents can learn how to care for their baby under the supervision of neonatal ICN staff in our Parents' Place apartment. Apartment amenities include a sleep bed, bathroom with hair dryer, television and ceiling fan. Additionally, parents and visitors can find respite in a special waiting area designated just for Hemby ICN.
