I have a doctor.  Why do I need these screenings?

Women's Health by Design does not replace your doctor.  The primary focus is to give you information that can help reduce your risk for certain health issues, such as heart disease, diabetes,  high cholesterol, high blood pressure, skin cancer, breast cancer and osteoporosis.  Many diseases have no warning signs or symptoms, but they do have risk factors.  By identifying these health risks early and taking preventive actions, your future quality-of-life can be improved.

How is this visit different than a visit with my doctor?

Our goal is to identify any risk factors through the health history and screenings and develop a personalized health plan. With your doctor's input, your Women's Health by Design report can be used to determine the next steps for your care.

Differences

  • 2-hour visit
  • Extended time to ask questions and discuss your overall health concerns
  • Chance to be well-educated about your risk factors before a problem occurs
  • One visit to develop your plan - no follow-up visits
  • Receive a written, comprehensive wellness report and health plan to share with your doctor

How will this service benefit me?

Women's Health by Design will benefit you in a number of ways, including:

  • Increase your awareness of your individual health risk
  • Help you detect problems before they occur or become harmful
  • Increase your sense of well-being
  • Provide you with a game plan for your overall health
  • Assist you wtih finding a doctor in the Presbyterian Healthcare network
  • Secure appointments for certain tests or physician office visits, if needed

Does Medicare or insurance cover the cost of Women's Health By Design?

Medicare or insurance does not cover our health screenings. However, you may be able to use money from your Healthcare Spending Account. We will provide a detailed receipt that you can submit to your account manager.

Who will be performing the assessment and screenings?

A nurse practitioner will be performing the assessment and screenings.

When will I receive my health screening wellness report?

You will receive your report on the day of your visit. The nurse practitioner will review your results with you on that day.

Will the wellness report go directly to my doctor?

You will receive an additional copy of your wellness report that you can keep and take to your primary care physician.

What do I do if I don't have a primary care physician?

We can refer you to a doctor in the Presbyterian Healthcare network.

What happens if a health problem is identified?

When there is an abnormal finding, we will send a letter to your primary care physician. If you do not have a primary care physician, we will refer you to one in the Presbyterian Healthcare network. We can also refer you for additional tests, if necessary.

If additional tests are necessary, will they be covered under my medical insurance?

Your insurance should cover additional tests, but insurance coverage varies from policy to policy.

Can I eat or drink anything before these screenings?

For accurate test results, please follow these instructions.

  • Morning appointment: Do not eat or drink (except water) after midnight the night before.  If you take medication in the morning, you can take them with water.
  • Afternoon appointment: Eat a light breakfast (toast or cereal) at least six hours before your visit that day.
  • If you are a diabetic, please call for specific instructions on how to take your medication or insulin.

Once you complete these screenings, a light breakfast or snack will be provided.
