Pregnant women with high-risk factors or conditions or who need specialized testing in their pregnancy are evaluated by a perinatologist, who is an obstetrician with additional training in maternal and fetal medicine.

Genetic Counseling

Couples who have questions about a genetic condition or birth defect can be evaluated by Presbyterian's genetic counselors. Our highly-skilled counselors have a master's degree and are certified by either the American Board of Medical Genetics or the American Board of Genetic Counseling.

The genetic counselor will review the couple's family history and will explain the appropriate prenatal tests, the pros and cons of testing, all available options and potential test results.

Your doctor will recommend genetic counseling and help arrange an appointment. Self-referrals are also accepted.

Special Maternity Care

Should your baby require specialized care after birth, Presbyterian Special Maternity Care, located within Presbyterian Women's Center, is a dedicated high-risk unit staffed with a perinatologist who specializes in high-risk pregnancies. Women with high-risk pregnancies can receive diagnostic sonography, fetal heart rate monitoring and interventional procedures.

Presbyterian Women's Center's special care suites are spacious and include a sleep sofa for the birthing partner, wireless high-speed Internet access, television and DVD/VCR player, stereo with CD player and a refrigerator. Learn More
