Pregnant women with high-risk factors or conditions or who need specialized testing in their pregnancy are evaluated by a perinatologist, who is an obstetrician with additional training in maternal and fetal medicine.
Genetic Counseling
Couples who have questions about a genetic condition or birth defect can be evaluated by Presbyterian's genetic counselors. Our highly-skilled counselors have a master's degree and are certified by either the American Board of Medical Genetics or the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
The genetic counselor will review the couple's family history and will explain the appropriate prenatal tests, the pros and cons of testing, all available options and potential test results.
Your doctor will recommend genetic counseling and help arrange an appointment. Self-referrals are also accepted.
