Pediatric Sleep Evaluations

A test that includes measurements used to identify different sleep stages, breathing patterns, blood oxygen levels, muscle activity and heart rhythm. The test is not associated with any pain and is designed to be as comfortable as possible. The evaluation generally takes between 6 and 8 hours at night and is performed in a comfortable and quite private room.

Polysomnogram

A polysomnogram is a comprehensive, all night testing procedure that takes place in a sleep lab. Electrodes and sensors are attached to the patient's head, chest, abdomen and legs to continuously record brain activity, muscle activity, eye movements, breathing patterns, oxygen exchange and occasionally other bodily functions. There should be no pain associated with the test.

Narcolepsy Evaluations

Evaluations of narcolepsy, a disorder that causes excessive sleepiness during the day and frequent and uncontrollable episodes of falling asleep.

Insomnia Evaluations

Evaluations of insomnia, the chronic inability to fall asleep or remain asleep for an adequate length of time.

Periodic Leg Movement Evaluations

Periodic leg movement syndrome is a sleep disorder characterized by rhythmic movements of the legs during sleep. Movements occur periodically throughout the night and can fluctuate in severity from one night to the next.

Sleep Disorders Treatment

Treatment of sleep disorders, which are a group of conditions characterized by an inability to have normal, restful sleep.

Radio Frequency Ablation for Sleep Apnea

Patients who snore and have obstruction of their breathing can be treated with a technique that uses radio waves emitted from an electrode. The radio waves destroy a small amount of tissue at the base of the tongue. The tissue then shrinks to allow the breathing space to open. More than one treatment may be necessary to improve the obstruction. This technique is also used in the nose for a similar tissue reduction of the turbinates to improve the breathing through the nose.

Sleep Problem Evaluations

Evaluation of sleep-related issues and conditions.

Restless Leg Evaluations

The diagnosis of Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is based upon a thorough medical and neurologic evaluation as well as a detailed patient history. Some physicians may use a clinical assessment scale to aid in the diagnosis of RLS and help to determine disease severity.

Sleep Apnea Evaluations

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep. The evaluation of sleep apnea may include tests in a sleep laboratory as well as home studies.
