Film Library

The Film Library acts as an important support center to patients, radiologists, technologists and referring physicians who use the Radiology Department at Presbyterian Hospital or any of the Presbyterian Imaging Centers. Located in the Radiology Department on the first floor of Presbyterian Hospital, the Film Library houses the actual films (images)  that are produced in all sections of Radiology, such as x-rays, CT scans, MRIs, mammograms, and so on. Films are filed, archived and retrieved on an on-going basis, seven days a week. The Film Library offers a secure and safe location that is HIPAA-compliant, as well as providing its customers, doctors and patients alike, the services of obtaining films in a quick, convenient manner.

Film Requests

The Film Library's standard hours of operation for the general public are Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Film pick-up requests should be called in, preferably 24 hours in advance, to (704) 384-4040. If you would like to request copies of your radiological films by email, please fill out the request form in the box to the right. The online form must be filled out completely or your request may be delayed while necessary information is obtained. Most requests will be processed within 24 hours. A release form must be signed by the patient at the time of pick-up.

Film Sign-Out Policy for Patient Pick-Up

After you have requested a film pick-up, simply come to the Film Library, located in the Radiology Department on the first floor of Presbyterian Hospital. If necessary, stop at the Radiology reception desk for directions to the Film Library. Please have a photo I.D. available to present to the Film Library attendant. You will be asked to sign a release authorization prior to receiving your requested films. The Radiology Department’s film sign-out policy is strictly followed due to designated HIPAA regulations.

Film Sign-Out Policy for Designee Pick-Up

Patients who are not able to pick up films in person and choose to send a designee (a person who they allow to pick up their films) should be advised that the designee is required to have written authorization by the patient in order to pick up the films. Patients who are unable to pick up their own films need to write on a piece of paper:

  • The patient's name
  • The name of the patient's designee (the person who they are authorizing to pick up their films)
  • The patient's signature

The designee must bring this signed piece of paper to the hospital and provide it to the Film Library attendant. The designee will also be required to show a photo I.D. and sign the release authorization in order to sign out films. The Radiology Department’s film sign-out policy is strictly followed due to designated HIPAA regulations.
