More than 2/3 of stroke survivors experience sleep apnea, which causes your sleep to be interrupted throughout the night.  Even if you don’t recall waking up, it makes you feel tired throughout the day and can cause concentration/memory problems, headaches and irritability.  If left untreated, sleep apnea can lead to increased blood pressure, heart stress and blood clotting.

Most often, your bed partner will be the first to notice sleep apnea symptoms, which can include loud snoring, gasping for breath in the night, shortness of breath and insomnia.
