Hospice

At Presbyterian, our team approach to hospice and palliative care allows us to develop individual care plans. These plans enable us to anticipate, prevent and relieve symptoms with a focus on improving the quality of life for patients and their families.         

With a shift from curative to comfort care, Presbyterian Hospice & Palliative Care provides physical, emotional and spiritual care for patients at end of life and emotional and spiritual support for their families. Creating an individualized treatment plan to comfortably manage pain and physical symptoms of each patient, the Presbyterian Hospice & Palliative Care team is made up of physicians, nurses, medical social workers, chaplains, grief counselors and volunteers – all working together to help each patient live life as comfortably and to the fullest each day.               Learn more about our team

Presbyterian's hospice program includes the area's only inpatient hospice unit, located within Presbyterian Cancer Center. The Harris Hospice Unit, a  short-stay transitional unit, is designed as a home away from home for many families. Patients and their loved ones can be together in an area where the emphasis is on stabilizing symptoms while providing comfort and support. Learn more about the Harris Hospice Unit

Grief Support Programs

Our hospice program offers counseling services, free of charge,  to anyone in the community dealing with loss of a loved one, even if the loved one was not cared for by our program. Other bereavement services include newsletters, education, support groups and individual counseling for up to one year after a loss. Learn more about bereavement programs

Coverage of Services

Admission to Presbyterian Hospice & Palliative Care does require a physician's order, but is not based upon the ability to pay.  All patients, regardless of income, deserve quality care and comfort, a philosophy that is inherent to hospice care.  Presbyterian accepts reimbursement from Medicare, Medicaid, and many other insurance plans. Arrangements are made for patients without insurance including social workers that will help families apply for Medicaid and community resources.

Your Donations Support Presbyterian Hospice & Palliative Care

Presbyterian Hospice & Palliative Care is supported by the generous financial gifts from many donors throughout the community.  Our Volunteer Program is supported through the gift of time, whether that time is in our inpatient hospice unit, at a patient's home, through office support or in the community. Donations of time by our dedicated volunteers and financial gifts are greatly appreciated, and help pay for services not covered by reimbursement. Volunteer with Presbyterian Hospice & Palliative Care

Volunteers are an important part of our Hospice team. Each volunteer receives extensive training provided by Presbyterian's professional staff.
