Officially open! – NEW pediatric emergency department!
Our children’s emergency department has grown! As of Oct. 5, we tripled in size, added new beds and redesigned our space to make it even more child-friendly, complete with an under-the-sea theme from entrance to exit. We even have a separate waiting room just for kids (and their parents, too)! So rest assured that whenever your child experiences an emergency, we’ll be here to get them back to being a kid again.

At Presbyterian, we understand that a child's medical needs are different from adults. That's why we are home to Charlotte's first emergency department dedicated exclusively to children. An emergency is a scary thing, but you can feel safe with your child in our hands.
From the moment you enter Presbyterian Children's Emergency Department, your child is at the center of everything we do. From the child-friendly atmosphere to the pediatric emergency medicine experts, you can feel confident that we'll make your visit as comfortable as possible and take care of your child like our own. Our under-the-sea theme that permeates the space helps children and their parents feel welcome, calm and confident that their children will be well cared for in a setting designed specifically for pediatrics.

Care Team
Our physicians are specially trained in pediatric emergency medicine, and our nurses all have special pediatric training. They see kids and only kids, so they recognize the special care and attention needed when working with children. During your visit, you may also see other providers, including physicians’ assistants, nurse practitioners, child life specialists, respiratory therapists, radiology technicians and others.
If your child is admitted
Should your child require hospitalization, we will directly admit him or her to Presbyterian Hemby Children’s Hospital, a comprehensive facility located right upstairs. With specialists in more than 25 areas of pediatric medicine, Hemby combines cutting-edge medical treatment with family-centered care, allowing your child to heal physically and emotionally.
