Child Life Specialists are members of the healthcare team who focus on the need of hospitalized children to minimize psychological trauma.

A child's hospitalization can be a very scary and overwhelming experience for the entire family. Child Life Specialists are trained in child development and specifically how hospitalization can affect a child's normal living patterns.
Child Life Specialists provide:
Preparation for medical procedures, tests and surgery at the patient's developmental level
Procedural support, pain management and coping education
Family and sibling support
Age-appropriate activities to continue normal growth and development of infants, children, and adolescents in patient rooms and/or playroom
Diversion/distraction and procedural support
Coordination of special events, holiday celebrations, entertainment and donations
Coordination of weekly activities such as pet therapy, music therapy and art.
