Our cookbooks are based on the Mediterranean-American diet and were created by a team of heart disease prevention experts. They're packed with easy-to-follow recipes, healthy eating plans and valuable information about lowering your risk for cardiovascular disease. They were tested on actual cardiovascular patients and are endorsed by a nationally known cardiologist.
"Seasons of the Heart" and "Eat Your Heart Out" are guides to making wise decisions in your daily diet. Most cookbooks stop with the "how-to" of healthy eating, but these books include the "why" by covering the nuts and bolts of a complete heart healthy lifestyle. In addition to healthy recipes and food plans, they include chapters on the risk factors for cardiovascular disease, how to effectively assess your heart health, the importance of exercise and the dangers of stress.
The proven effectiveness of the Mediterranean diet helped inspire our cookbooks. According to a recent study completed by the University of Athens Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health, individuals who follow a Mediterranean-style diet are at less risk of dying from heart disease (June 2003). The study found that a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, olive oil and fish, combined with an active lifestyle, has a significant impact on reducing cardiovascular disease mortality.
