Stamp Out Sodium

Learn how to be on the lookout for low-sodium, great-tasting foods as you’re walking the aisles at the grocery store.

Following a low-sodium diet is based on four principles:

  • Know your sodium allowance. For heart failure patients, this is 2,000 mg of sodium per day, or 600 mg sodium per meal and 200 mg sodium for all snacks.
  • Understand how to read food labels, and read them!
  • Choose the right foods when you shop.
  • Always remember that a low-sodium diet should be based on fresh and minimally processed foods.
