Surgical repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms and thoracic aneurysms is usually recommended when symptoms are present or the aneurysm is large enough to present a major risk of rupture or aortic dissection. Smaller aneurysms are usually treated with blood pressure management and regular imaging to detect any changes in size or risk to the patient. Aortic dissection can be a life-threatening emergency, and immediate surgery is usually recommended.
