Take charge of your health by following screening protocol for the early detection of colorectal cancer. Regular screenings should begin at age 50, unless family history or other health conditions specify otherwise. Normally, one of four tests is recommended: fecal occult blood test (FOBT), flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, and double-contrast barium enema (DCBE). Learn more about these exams.
If an abnormality is detected, your doctor will take a biopsy to determine if the cells in question are cancerous.
