Newly Diagnosed, Now What? - NEW support group for newly diagnosed patients

News of a cancer diagnosis is overwhelming.  There is so much information to absorb!  Join us for an info sesion on community resources and stay to have your questions answered.  Second and fourth Fridays, 10-11:30 a.m. Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center.

The How of Happiness

Join us for a four-week workshop based on a book by the same name written by Sonja Lyubomirsky, PhD. July 7, 14, 21 and 28, 6 p.m. Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center.  Call 704-384-CARE (2273) to register.

Lymphedema Risk Reduction Class

If you have had lymph nodes surgically removed or radiated, you need to learn about lymphedema and how to prevent it! Join us for a free education class, Tues., Jul.20, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Call 704-384-3691 to register.

Techniques for Handling Stress & Anxiety

This four-week workshop series includes lectures, demonstrations and practical techniques for handling stress and anxiety. Learned techniques include: progressive muscular relaxation, guided imagery, meditation and reprocessing negative beliefs into positive ones. Aug. 4, 11, 18 and 25, 7 - 9 p.m. Call 704-384-CARE to register.

Yoga Warriors Against Cancer

Yoga enthusiasts and cancer survivors are invited to participate in a fundraising event to support cancer rehab services.
The event includes 75-minute yoga sessions, massage, nutrition information and light food and beverage. Fri., Aug. 6, 6 – 9 p.m. Yoga for Life studio. $30. Call 704-384-5338  or click here to register.

7th Annual Presbyterian Hospital Invitational Criterium

Bring friends and family and join us downtown to cheer on the men and women racing to raise money for the Brain Tumor Fund of the Carolinas.  This professional cycling event draws participation from across the world and features two separate races, plus a flurry of other events and family-friendly activities.  Saturday, Aug. 7, beginning at 5 p.m. Tryon Street downtown.  Learn More

Reconnecting Through Touch: Massage and Yoga Techniques for Couples

Come with your partner to learn safe and relaxing massage techniques, followed by rejuvenating yoga postures to enjoy together. Light snacks and water will be provided.  Friday, Aug. 20, 6 - 8 p.m.  $25/couple. Call 704-384-6953 to register.

The 10 Best Techniques for Handling Depression

This series will explore the meaning of depression and its impact on the mind, body and healing process.  Techniques will be adapted in the class to help oneself with the development of realistic hope and positive expression, including gratitude. Dancing Under the Stars

A fundraising event celebrating the 10th anniversary of Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center. Proceeds benefit the Hand-in-Hand emergency assistance fund. Join us for dance lessons, a DJ and heavy hors d' oeuvres.  Saturday, Sept. 11, beginning at 6 p.m.  Call 704-384-5223 to register or for more information.

Prostate Cancer: Your Options for Care

Join us for a multidisciplinary panel session discusing the latest information on options for treating prostate cancer.  Q&A session will follow the discussion.  Panel of experts includes radiation oncologist Dr. L. Scott McGinnis; urologist Dr. Dan Watson; prostate cancer nurse navigator Pam Gwaltney; and prostate cancer research coordinator Jayson Randall. Children's Lives Include Moments of Bravery (CLIMB)

A special program for families who have a parent or caregiver with a cancer diagnosis.  Please call 704-384-0103 for more information and to register for upcoming classes.

Wellness

Massage for cancer survivors

Cancer patients/survivors are invited to enjoy the benefits of massage from licensed massage therapists with special training in oncology.  Both table and chair massages are available.  Learn More

Caregiver massage

Caregivers need to relax as well!  Thanks to a collaboration with Southeastern School of Massage, free, 10-minute chair massages are now offered for all cancer caregivers.  No registration required.  Cancer Center lobby, Fridays, 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Strides to Strength

A 24-session cancer wellness/fatigue management program to improve physical and emotional recovery by focusing on exercise, nutrition and support.  This program helps those who are undergoing treatment for cancer or recovering from its effects.  Morning, afternoon and evening classes are available.  Learn More

Yoga for cancer survivors

Yoga is a well-known wellness activity that, when lead by specially trained staff, can be beneficial for cancer patients/survivors as well.  Currently yoga is offered for free in six-week sessions.  Morning, afternoon and evening classes are available.  Learn More

Relax & Rejuvenate: Energy Restoration for the Soul

Participants will benefit from guided imagery, meditation, body movement and visual arts.  Fridays, 10 - 11:30 a.m.  Call 704-384-5223 for more information.

Support services are available through Presbyterian Buddy Kemp Caring House and include individual and family counseling, special programs for kids and teens and small group meetings.
