The support groups offered by the Presbyterian Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center are free to anyone in the community regardless of insurance status, physician or hospital affiliation. All groups are open to family and friends except for the breast cancer support groups, which are designed for patients only. Our staff works in close collaboration with the volunteer office, chaplain's office, community care services, community therapists, the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society and the American Cancer Society to provide the most comprehensive support program in the region. Individual and Family Counseling
In addition to support groups, we offer individual and family counseling to help cancer survivors and family members (including children and teens) adjust to the cancer diagnosis and the challenges this diagnosis presents. To schedule an appointment, please call 704-384-5223 or 1-800-998-4673.
Bereavement Support Group
This group is offered to family and friends who have lost a loved one. The group meets every Thursday from 6-8 p.m.
"Bosom Buddies" Breast Cancer Support Group
This groups meets every Wednesday from 10-11:30 a.m. Guest speakers come on the first Wednesday and pot luck lunch is offered on the second Wednesday.
"Bosom Buddies-South" Breast Cancer Support Group
Meets the first and third Tuesday of every month from 6:30-8 p.m. at Presbyterian Hospital Matthews.
Caregiver Connections
Caregivers are invited to drop in at their convenience and take a moment or two to rejuvenate. Every Thursday, 2-3 p.m.
Living Through Cancer
This support group is for any cancer type and is open to survivors and caregivers. Meets in Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville's Community Room at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month.
Living with Gynecological Cancer
A support group for women currently diagnosed with gynecological cancer. Fourth Monday of every month from 10-11:30 a.m.
Look Good, Feel Better
Look Good, Feel Better is a free, national public service program to help women who are undergoing cancer treatment. This program teaches women coping skills for dealing with appearance-related side effects of treatment, which may include hair loss and changes in complexion and fingernails. Look Good, Feel Better is a product-neutral (no specific product, brand or manufacturer is recommended or endorsed) and makes no medical claims. Sessions and materials are provided at no charge. This program is co-sponsored by the Presbyterian Cancer Center, American Cancer Society, CTFA Foundation and the National Cosmetology Association. Look Good, Feel Better meets on the first Monday of each month from 10 a.m. -12 p.m.
Metastatic Breast Cancer Support Group
Open to women diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer. First and third Tuesdays, lunch from 12:30-1:30 p.m.; group session from 1:30-3 p.m.
Mind/Body Techniques to Enhance Healing
16-week course that teaches skills and develops tools to facilitate healing and good preventive health. New sessions start every eight weeks. Every Monday, 7-9 p.m.
Newly Diagnosed, Now What?
News of a cancer diagnosis is overwhelming. There is so much information to absorb! Join us for an info sesion on community resources and stay to have your questions answered. Second and fourth Fridays, 10-11:30 a.m.
Prostate Cancer Support Group
The Prostate Cancer Support Group meets the second Monday of every month from 7-8:30 p.m.
Sisters Network
African American breast cancer support group. Monthly. Third Thursday. 6:30-8 p.m. For more information visit www.sistersnetwork.org.
Thyroid Cancer Support Group
Open to adults, family and friends diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Monthly. Third Saturday, 10-11:30 a.m.
Especially for Children and Young Adults:
CLIMB
Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery - Helping kids and families cope with cancer. For children ages 6 - 11 whose parent or grandparent is undergoing cancer treatment. Blume Teen Group
Open to teens and young adults with a cancer diagnosis. Monthly. Third Monday. 6-8 p.m.
