Charlotte, N.C. - Presbyterian Healthcare’s Women’s Health by Design program was one of two programs in the country to receive special recognition for innovation in women’s health from the Snowmass Institute, recognizing the development and execution of the Women’s Health by Design initiative.

A health evaluation program that combines comprehensive screenings, one-on-one consultations and personalized education in an appointment with a certified nurse practitioner, Women’s Health by Design helps women understand their current health and risk factors.  After the series of screenings, the nurse practitioner and the patient collaborate on overall health goals based on the screening results.  If needed, referrals are made for follow-up care.

A program of Presbyterian Women’s Center, Women’s Health by Design referred more than 75 percent of their patients to a primary care physician for follow up or to subspecialty clinics for additional testing, medical treatment or surgical procedures.  Without this program, these women may not have received the care they needed in a timely manner.

“We are honored to receive this award, but we are even more thrilled that we’ve been able to diagnose symptoms and get women care that they need,” said Pat Campbell, vice president of women’s and children’s services for Presbyterian Healthcare, who oversees this program.

“I had a great experience with Women’s Health by Design,” said Cindy Parsons, a participant in the program.  “It was very comprehensive, and I learned what I need to focus on to stay healthy.  Women need to take care of themselves because they are the ones who take care of the rest of their family.  Women’s Health by Design helps women like me do this.”

Women’s Health by Design screenings include cholesterol, glucose, bone density, skin cancer, blood pressure, body mass index, vision and a nutrition and exercise assessment.
