Presbyterian Healthcare Recognized with Red Apple Award By North Carolina Prevention Partners

CHARLOTTE, NC – Presbyterian Healthcare was named the recent recipient of the Red Apple Award by North Carolina Prevention Partners. All four local Presbyterian hospitals in Charlotte, Matthews and Huntersville held celebrations to commemorate receiving the exciting award.

Presbyterian Healthcare is the first multi-hospital group to receive the Red Apple Award from North Carolina Prevention Partners. This designation was granted for the strong commitment each hospital has made in developing, promoting and sustaining a healthy food environment.

“Presbyterian Healthcare is taking important steps to offer healthier foods to employees and visitors including portion guidelines and healthy lifestyle education as part of North Carolina Prevention Partners’ statewide healthy food in hospitals initiative,” said Melissa Gress, system director of clinical nutrition and patient services for Presbyterian Hospital. “It was clear to us that we have to do something to make it easier for customers to lead healthier lifestyles. Everyone wants to eat healthier; we just take an innovative approach to show our customers that eating healthy can be simple.”

At the Red Apple celebration held at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte a mini health fair was offered, complete with free blood pressure and Body Mass Index screenings in addition to an Iron Chef-style competition held between hospital leaders. Games such as “Guess the Spice” and other fun-filled activities was also a part of the event’s festivities.
