MATTHEWS, N.C. – Feeling forgetful? November is Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, and Presbyterian Hospital Matthews is offering free memory screenings to the community.
An estimated more than five million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease and this number is on the rise. In fact, the Alzheimer’s Association estimates that ten million baby boomers will develop Alzheimer’s in their lifetime.
“Frequently, patients developing Alzheimer’s dementia do not recognize that there is a problem, but their families do,” said Jodi Dodds, M.D., neurologist at Presbyterian Neurology Center. “If someone in a family is exhibiting noticeable memory loss or difficulties with thinking and reasoning, screening for possible dementia is essential so that the patient can be diagnosed and treated as early as possible.”
Trained healthcare professionals from Presbyterian Hospital Matthews will conduct the free one-on-one memory screenings on Tuesday, Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Levine Senior Center in Matthews and from 9 a.m. to noon at the Ellen Fitzgerald Senior Center in Monroe. Anyone with concerns about memory problems is invited to register for the event by calling 704-384-CARE. Registration is required for this event.
