Charlotte, N.C. -- R.G. survived a stroke six months ago. Since his discharge, R.G. periodically brought bouquets of flowers to Presbyterian Rehabilitation Center to show his appreciation for the care he received. But one day recently, employees realized that R.G. was in front of the rehabilitation center, watering and fertilizing a newly planted flower garden! R.G. comes by once a week to care for the garden he planted for his caregivers. The plants are growing and healthy.
R.G. has a manually intensive job installing wiring in buildings for telephone lines. Prior to his stroke, R.G.’s blood pressure was out of control. After his stroke, R.G. was closely monitored by Presbyterian’s stroke rehabilitation team, including Angie Cottrill, OTR, Darelle Biddix, PT, Holly McLaughlin, SLP and Michael Scanlon, PTA.
R.G. worked diligently to get his blood pressure under control and to reclaim the use of his side affected by the stroke. R.G. asked many questions about recovery and how he could improve his life. After a lot of hard work and help from the staff at Presbyterian Rehabilitation Center, R.G. was able to return to work and, of course, to his passion for gardening.
Just six months after being treated for a stroke at Presbyterian Hospital and Presbyterian Rehabilitation Center, R.G. is back on his feet again doing what he loves.
