CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Thanks to a new partnership between the Presbyterian Hospital Community Care Cruiser and Charlotte Community Health Clinic (CCHC), uninsured children in Charlotte will soon have a new medical home. Beginning next week, CCHC will open its doors on 6900 Farmingdale Drive to a new pediatric medical clinic. Staffed by a pediatric nurse practitioner, registered nurse, certified medical assistant and patient coordinator, the clinic will be open three days a week.
CCHC, which for years has served uninsured adults at its Eastway Drive location, has long recognized the need for expanded services, but it wasn’t until the Presbyterian Hospital Community Care Cruiser – a mobile health clinic for underserved youth – began serving patients that leaders realized just how great the need really was.
“When we hit the road three years ago we thought we’d be providing basic medical services such as physicals, sick visits and immunizations,” said LeeAnne Broadway, coordinator for the Cruiser. “Instead we found that these children required more acute care and had no other place to turn for a medical home. The new pediatric clinic at Charlotte Community Health Clinic will help us provide that continuum of care for our patients and will fill a void in the community.”
According to Nancy Hudson, director of Charlotte Community Health Clinic, the business community stepped up to the plate to make the clinic’s dreams for expanded coverage become a reality. “When organizations learned about our desire to offer pediatric care they immediately asked what they could do to help,” said Hudson. “The fact that we’re celebrating today is testament to the generosity in this community.”
