CHARLOTTE, NC – In a time where many businesses are struggling financially, the Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation has recognized that the community is suffering at even a greater level due to job loss and benefit cuts. Their commitment to the health and wellbeing of the community has led them to donate $250,000 to support the Presbyterian Hospital Community Care Cruiser.
The Community Care Cruiser, a 40-foot “doctor’s office on wheels,” provides free primary and preventive care to un- and underinsured youth in need in and around Mecklenburg County. Since November 2007, the Cruiser has treated more than 4,000 pediatric patients in need. In the past year, many families who were previously insured have benefitted from its services.
“The mission of the Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation is to build strong and vibrant communities, improve the quality of life and make a positive difference,” said Kendall Alley, Charlotte region community banking president. “This donation is a great investment in the health and future of children in need, and its payout is invaluable – healthy and happy kids.”
Presbyterian Hospital Community Care Cruiser Program Coordinator LeeAnne Broadway underscored the recent donation’s impact. “We really appreciate the Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation’s generosity; it means so much to us and especially to the children and their families who need our help,” she said. “In this difficult time, more often people do not have enough money to pay for even the basic things in life. This donation gives us the opportunity to buy more medical supplies, to take care of more children and to keep them healthy.”
