Dr. Balder is board-certified in general surgery and earned his medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, IL. He completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Brown University-Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. Dr. Balder has extensive training in advanced laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques that decrease complications, recovery time and pain experienced after surgery. Previously, Dr. Balder practiced bariatric surgery in Florence, SC. In 2000, he was the first surgeon in South Carolina to perform a laparoscopic gastric bypass procedure. Dr. Balder holds memberships in the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Metabolic & Bariatric Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal & Endoscopic Surgeons.
