New Employee Giving Campaign Reaches Out to Agencies in Need

Charlotte, N.C. -- Presbyterian Healthcare exists to improve the health of the communities.  And they truly take that to heart, not only in providing medical care, but also through donations to support local agencies.  This year, Presbyterian started a new employee giving campaign, Caring Beyond Our Walls, which supports 12 nonprofit agencies in the community.  Through this campaign, Presbyterian employees have raised more than $500,000 for: American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Charlotte Community Health Clinic, Crisis Assistance Ministry, Lake Norman Free Clinic, March of Dimes, Matthews Health Clinic, Presbyterian Healthcare Employee Emergency Fund, Presbyterian Hospital Community Care Cruiser, Presbyterian Hospital Foundation, Second Harvest Food Bank and United Way.

“We are so excited that our employees have donated more than $500,000 to support families in need,” said Ophelia Garmon-Brown, MD, vice president of community partnerships for Novant Health and the 2009 Caring Beyond Our Walls chair. “We are so appreciative of their generosity, and we know that each dollar raised is really going to a great cause.”

Caring Beyond Our Walls allows Presbyterian Healthcare employees to choose which nonprofit agency they would like to support based on their passion and desire to help others. Each employee may designate up to two agencies to donate to, and there is no minimum amount to do so. To select the agencies, the employee advisory boards at each hospital were surveyed, and the top survey results were the chosen agencies. Each agency touches the lives of people in the community every day.

“These community organizations are depending on all of us to step up and make a difference in the lives of others,” Garmon-Brown said.  “It is a privilege to work for an organization that encourages our participation in these meaningful activities.”
