Anniversary Celebration to Include Donor Visits, Food Lion Gift Cards for Families
Charlotte, N.C. -- Many parents dread taking their child to the doctor’s office. However, if you are a parent of a child who is un- or underinsured, finding a doctor’s office that is affordable and accessible is reason to celebrate. For the past two years, the Presbyterian Hospital Community Care Cruiser has brought smiles to the faces of underserved youth in the Greater Charlotte community by providing primary and preventive care to those who otherwise could not afford it.
On Monday, November 23, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., the Cruiser’s successes will be recognized during a two-year anniversary celebration held at the Solomon House in Huntersville (200 S. Main St.), one of the Cruiser’s nine partner sites throughout Mecklenburg, Union and Rowan Counties. Present at the event will be patients receiving their flu shots and donors who will for the first time see the Cruiser in action. Additionally, thanks to Food Lion’s generosity, patient families will receive a $20 gift card to ease the stress of pinching pennies to provide a holiday meal.
“I cannot believe how far we have come in two years,” said LeeAnne Broadway, program coordinator for the Cruiser. “When we first hit the road in 2007 we had no concept of just how great the community need was for accessible pediatric medical care. Reflecting back on the positive difference we have made in people’s lives, I am so proud to be part of the Cruiser team and so thankful for the support of everyone who has made this outreach possible.”
The Presbyterian Hospital Community Care Cruiser is a 40-foot doctor’s office on wheels that provides services such as screenings, well visits, primary and preventive care and resource referrals to un- and underinsured youth in Mecklenburg, Union and Rowan Counties. In its two years of operation, the Cruiser has more than doubled its projected volume, caring for more than 3,000 patients, resulting in approximately 800 avoided ED visits.
