Charlotte, N.C. -- Presbyterian Hemby Children’s Hospital is opening a movie theater within the walls of the hospital, giving hospitalized children and those with compromised immune systems a chance to experience normalcy and go to the movies, without the risk of germs and infection. Complete with real movie tickets, concessions, stadium seating, a walk down the red carpet and a viewing of ICE AGE: THE MELTDOWN, the grand opening will be a special treat and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for kids who otherwise may not have the chance to see ICE AGE: THE MELTDOWN in theaters.
“We’re so excited to give kids the chance to just be kids,” said Pat Campbell, vice president of women’s and children’s services for Presbyterian. “The Hemby Theater will be a great escape for our patients; it will allow them to forget about their illness for a bit and just enjoy watching a movie.”
The grand opening will feature two separate movie screenings, in the morning or afternoon. In between the showings, a party and lunch will take place for all patients and families.
We know that our patients and families will love walking the red carpet and experiencing a taste of Hollywood, and we’re excited to bring smiles to a lot of kids’ faces,” Campbell said.
In addition to the grand opening, the Hemby Theater will show movies and serve concessions to hospitalized pediatric patients on a regular basis.
