Charlotte, N.C. -- When your child is sick or hurt, you take them to the doctor.  Not all children have that luxury.  In Afghanistan, many children don’t ever see doctors, even for large scale injuries and illnesses such as burns, anemia and orthopaedic ailments.

Presbyterian Healthcare is working to change that.  The non-profit healthcare organization is donating care for children traveling to Charlotte through Solace for the Children, a nonprofit organization that provides medical and dental care to needy children, by facilitating and arranging their travel to the United States and coordinating medical services while they are here.

Many physicians and staff have been involved, including Paulette Bryant, M.D. of Presbyterian Blume Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Clinic.  She administrated a blood transfusion to a young girl that ultimately saved the child’s life.

“Being a part of Solace for The Children is an amazing thing,” Bryant said.  “To be able to help children who otherwise wouldn’t receive medical care is a truly touching experience.  I’m glad that Presbyterian is reaching out and helping children throughout the world.”
