HUNTERSVILLE, NC – Tanya Blackmon has been promoted to president of Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville (PHH). Her predecessor, Melissa Robson, was recently named chief operating officer at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Both facilities are part of parent organization Novant Health, headquartered in Winston-Salem.
Blackmon will join PHH on July 7. The full-service hospital, which opened in 2004, houses 60 beds and more than 640 employees.
Upon her arrival, Blackmon will lead a facility that continues to grow to meet the needs of the community. Following recent approval from the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation, PHH will add an additional 15 beds to the facility. These beds will be located in a new two-story bed tower, which will be added to an existing one story structure that currently includes surgical services.
Among other projects, PHH was given re-zoning approval to add an additional 204,000 square feet over the next 20 years, a project that will cost approximately $26.5 million. Additionally, in an effort to offer advanced technology in the Lake Norman community, a $4.7 million endovascular suite is currently under construction on the campus. Minimally invasive vascular procedures will be provided, among other services.
New programs and services also have been recently added, including a $1.9 million clinical decision unit. Based in the emergency department, this unit serves as a 24-hour observation area to determine if a patient will be admitted to the hospital or discharged. A new bariatric program also was just launched, the first of its kind at the hospital.
Since 2004, Blackmon has been serving as chief operating officer of Presbyterian Orthopaedic Hospital (POH) and vice president of orthopaedic and neuroscience services. Based in Charlotte, POH is a 156-bed specialty hospital that is the recipient of national quality awards, as well as high patient, physician and employee satisfaction rankings.
Blackmon began her career at Presbyterian Hospital in 1992 as director of Patient and Family Services, Community Care Services and Rehabilitation Services. During her tenure, she has held a wide variety of leadership roles, including director of quality improvement.
Blackmon holds a Master of Science in business administration from Queens University of Charlotte, a Master of Social Work from the University of South Carolina in Columbia and a Bachelor of Science in social work from North Carolina A&T State University. Blackmon still maintains her license as a clinical social worker.
Among her many achievements, Blackmon has received multiple state and local industry awards, including North Carolina Healthcare Social Work Administrator of the Year.
