MATTHEWS, N.C. – Feeling forgetful? November is Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, and Presbyterian Hospital Matthews and Levine Senior Center are partnering to offer free memory screenings to the community.

An estimated more than five million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease and this number is on the rise. In fact, the Alzheimer’s Association estimates that ten million baby boomers will develop Alzheimer’s in their lifetime.

“This screening can be an important first step to find out if you have Alzheimer’s disease, dementia or another condition that may cause memory loss,” said Aristides Chaconas, M.D., neurologist at Presbyterian Neurology Center. “Early detection and diagnosis is the key to better treatment as available medical treatments for Alzheimer’s can help delay the progression of symptoms.”

Trained healthcare professionals from Presbyterian Hospital Matthews will conduct the free one-on-one memory screenings on Tuesday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Levine Senior Center in Matthews. Anyone with concerns about memory problems is invited to register for the event by calling 704-384-CARE. Registration is required for this event.
