Radiology technologists take some of the most important pictures people have taken in their lifetimes. That’s one reason why this week has been named “Radiologic Technology Week” by Charlotte mayor Pat McCrory.

Not only will the radiology technologists of all four Charlotte-area hospitals use this week to celebrate their careers, but this is also a time for the group to come together and focus on education efforts and providing a safe imaging environment for patients.

Presbyterian radiology technologists use a variety of advanced imaging tools to help diagnose and treat a number of injuries and illnesses. But for many radiology technologists with Presbyterian Healthcare, the goal is not simply providing safe, quality imaging, but much, much more.

Take Cindi Gilbert, supervisor of PET/CT at Presbyterian Hospital, for example. Gilbert, who works frequently with cancer patients, is incredibly passionate about her work. One of her recent patients was a 4-year-old boy whose dream was to meet Dale Earnhardt, Jr. But Gilbert didn’t go out and buy the boy an action figure, instead she brought him the real deal — Dale Earnhardt, Jr. himself.

Gilbert made a flyer about the little boy and went to a local charity event to seek out help. With enough determination, Gilbert was able to get in touch with the right people, and what followed was a dream come true. For the October 11th race on Dale Earnhardt, Jr.’s birthday, the little boy and his parents were chauffeured to the race where he was able to meet and spend time with his hero.

Gilbert’s story is just one remarkable patient experience that came out of this team of caregivers. There’s also Jeff Boudman, supervisor of Radiology at Presbyterian Hospital, who has fundraised for the blind in Charlotte and many more who have gone above and beyond their job title to raise the bar in their daily work.

Congratulations to all the radiologic technologists at Presbyterian Healthcare for their hard work and dedication to providing excellent quality imaging and patient care for the patients and families of Charlotte.
