Cancer Calendar Tells Stories of Survivorship
Charlotte, N.C. -- For many, calendars are useful to keep track of important dates throughout the year. For cancer patients, calendars represent daily milestones in their journey to survivorship. Back by popular demand, Presbyterian Cancer Center has created a calendar that lets survivors tell their own story and gives patients a daily dose of inspiration.
Meet a few of the survivors:
Jeff: A husband and father of three, he credits his stomach cancer diagnosis with reprioritizing the important things in life. Despite his disease, he counts his blessings and finds ways to give back to those who are less fortunate than him.
Lugertha: A breast cancer survivor, this retiree fills her days living life to its fullest. Whether playing African drums or singing in the choir, her diagnosis hasn’t cause her to miss a beat.
Madison: A pediatric leukemia survivor and talented artist, she found the hospital’s Arts for Life program to be the expressive outlet she needed during treatment.
“We’re so honored to be a part of something that makes people smile,” said Marcia Lampert, manager of Presbyterian Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center. “You can’t help but feel inspired when you read through the stories.”
To celebrate the calendar’s launch, a party was held on Thursday, Nov. 11, for the 12 survivors, their nominators and Presbyterian Cancer Center leadership. Each survivor was presented with a framed copy of their photo, complete photo CD and several copies of the calendar to share with family and friends.
Presbyterian Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center is distributing the calendars free of charge to anyone in the community with a cancer diagnosis. Donations are encouraged to help the center continue to fulfill its mission of providing support to cancer patients and families.
