Charlotte, N.C. – The 10th annual Hemby Cup, an annual hockey event benefiting Presbyterian Hemby Children’s Hospital, is scheduled for Sat., Oct. 22 at 1p.m. at Time Warner Cable Arena, with Microsoft facing off against Bank of America employees.
The event, started by Microsoft in 2001, to-date has raised more than $750,000 to build a hospital playground, fund the Arts for Life program and purchase much-needed medical equipment and toys. This year’s proceeds will benefit Hemby and Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte.
“The Hemby Cup was founded to give children, if for just one day, an opportunity to forget about the treatments, the rehabilitation and the medicine and just have FUN,” explained Tom DeFeo, Hemby Cup founder and National Director at Microsoft. “We aim to bring the community together in support of the kids and raise money for services that improve the pediatric patient experience.”
Also present at this year’s event will be five VIPs. These VIPs, Presbyterian pediatric patients, will be honored heroes at the Hemby Cup. One VIP, cancer survivor and 6th grader Madison Robinson, will sing the national anthem at the event.
