Charlotte, N.C. – September is National Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month. In honor of all the Charlotte-area women who have fought this disease, Presbyterian Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center is hosting “Time for You: A Morning for GYN Cancer Survivors” on Saturday, September 24, 2011. The event will feature Q&A sessions with a gynecologic oncologist, massages, massages, makeovers, yoga, nutrition consults and breakfast. This event is open to the public.
GYN cancers affect women’s reproductive organs including the cervix, endometrium, uterus, fallopian tubes, vagina, vulva, and ovaries. Symptoms are often subtle and difficult to diagnose. Four main symptoms associated with GYN cancers are bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, difficulty eating or feeling full quickly and urinary urgency or frequency. GYN cancers do not discriminate; they can strike a woman at any age and of any race. Through the celebration of survivorship, Presbyterian aims to raise awareness of GYN cancers and urge women to know their bodies and get regular check ups.
“Time for You: a Morning for GYN Cancer Survivors” will take place at Presbyterian Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center, 242 Colonial Ave., Charlotte, N.C. 28207. Dr. Kellie Schneider of Presbyterian Gynecologic Oncology will be the event’s keynote speaker. For more information or to register for this FREE event, call 704-384-5223.
