Frank E. Lorch, MD, of Total Spine Specialists, has been awarded board certification in electrodiagnostic medicine by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM) and is now an ABEM diplomate, meaning he has advanced training and expertise in the electrodiagnostic evaluation of disorders of the neuromuscular system. The ABEM is the national certifying body for physicians specializing in electrodiagnostic medicine. It was established in 1989 to maintain the high standards required for electrodiagnostic certification and to promote high-quality patient care.
Physicians who practice electrodiagnostic medicine diagnose and manage individuals of all ages who have medical problems related to muscle and nerve disorders, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, myasthenia gravis, radiculopthies and neuropathies. The most common electrodiagnostic tests include electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies.
Dr. Lorch attended medical school and completed his residency training at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. During his residency, he trained under Ernie Johnson, MD, one of the pioneers of electrodiagnostic medicine. Dr. Lorch completed a fellowship in spine and sports medicine at the Buffalo Spine and Sports Institute in Williamsville, N.Y. He is a member of the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM), the international association dedicated to advancing neuromuscular, musculoskeletal and electrodiagnostic medicine. As a diplomate of the ABEM, Dr. Lorch now has fellow status with AANEM.
