You and your partner have decided your family is ready for children. Now what? Probably a lot of questions.
When should a woman stop taking birth control? When to start prenatal vitamins? How do diet and exercise factor into conception? What are risk factors? How does one chart fertile times to maximize chance of pregnancy?
The doctors of Mintview Obstetrics and Gynecology will address these queries and many more at a preconception clinic on May 5 in Ballantyne. Alyse Kelly-Jones, MD and Caudrean Avery-Benjamin, MD will share insight and education in a casual, low-pressure setting.
Among the topics the doctors will touch on during the clinic: conception expectations, the importance of folic acid and vitamins, immunizations, prescription medicine use, genetic testing and helping the body become ready for pregnancy.
"I found during my training that the women who seemed happiest were those who came to me with their own questions and concerns and actively sought out ways to work with me," Dr. Kelly-Jones says. "I make sure my patients take responsibility for their own health, which helps me provide the best medical care available."
The clinic, which is open to the public, will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 5 at the Mintview OB/GYN-Ballantyne office, 15830 John J. Delaney Drive, Medical Building II, Suite 275, Charlotte. The event will feature door prizes, snacks and beverages.
