No carb. High protein. Grapefruit only. No sugar. Only raw. It's not a coincidence that diets don't work. They're too restrictive, too hard to maintain.

Improved health starts with a balanced nutritional plan, says fitness specialist Erin Roberts. Together with Mintview OB/GYN, Roberts is offering personalized nutritional counseling starting Thursday, May 5 at her Bodywork by the Park Studio, 1809 East Blvd., Suite 204.

What we consume has implications far beyond dress size, she says. An intentional, balanced nutrition plan can help control diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, celiac disease and allergies, among other ailments.

Erin will lead participants through the six basic nutrients on which total wellness is built: carbohydrates, fat, protein, vitamins, minerals and water. Besides providing nutritional accountability, she'll address dietary variety, moderation and wholesomeness, as well as identify the causes of unhealthy eating.

If you learn how and what to eat, you'll control your blood sugar levels, Erin says, and that will curb cravings. She'll also touch on the science of weight loss, calories and successful strategies for weight reduction, as well as how to read labels and shop at the grocery store.

Roberts, 42, is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and certified personal trainer with more than 13 years industry experience. She is accredited through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and has worked with a range of individual fitness levels and needs.

Classes are $15 per session (discounts for those who qualify), and will run weekly at the studio in Dilworth, from 1-3 p.m. starting Thursday, May 5.  For more information or to reserve a spot, contact Erin Roberts at 704.840.9953 or erinr18@gmail.com.
