Presbyterian Healthcare Receives $179,500 from Komen Charlotte

Charlotte, N.C. --  As testimony to their dedication to making cancer services available to all populations, Presbyterian Healthcare recently was awarded five grants totaling $179,500 from Komen Charlotte.  These grants were part of the larger $1.24 million Komen distributed to 24 local nonprofit organizations during a ceremony on March 30. 

Presbyterian Healthcare’s funds, highlighted below, will provide breast health education, life-saving screening procedures, and treatment to individuals in Mecklenburg and surrounding counties.

  • Education, Early Detection and Prevention (funds to provide screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms and ultrasound-guided biopsies)
    • Presbyterian Cancer Center: $94,400
    • Presbyterian Hospital Matthews: $28,000
    • Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville: $28,000
  • Presbyterian Cancer Rehabilitation & Wellness (funds to provide supplies for lymphedema treatment to un/underinsured patients, as well as education for prevention)
    • Lymphedema program: $24,100
  • Presbyterian Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center (funds to reduce the financial burden of medical expenses for women diagnosed with breast cancer): $5,000

Komen Charlotte is dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front. Up to 75 percent of the affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for medically underserved women. Komen Charlotte provides support to Mecklenburg County and the eight surrounding counties that border it.
 
Presbyterian Cancer Center is a long-term partner with Komen Charlotte and continues to support their mission to save lives and end breast cancer forever.  They are also a recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer - another example of their commitment to providing medical knowledge, leading technology and nurturing care to patients and their families. This year marks the first year that Presbyterian Hospital Matthews and Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville have received grant dollars from Komen.  These dollars will provide vital screening services to women in neighboring communities.
