Charlotte, N.C. -- Since opening their Charlotte practice, Dr. Bryan Criswell and his wife Dr. Kara Criswell of Criswell and Criswell Plastic Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery, have provided women and their husbands the professional guidance they need to deal with breast reconstruction following their breast cancer surgery. Recently, the numbers of men who play the role of father, brother or son have grown. These men seek the same advice on how to best support the women they care about during their breast cancer treatment.
In response to this growing demand, Dr. Bryan Criswell and specially trained cancer counselors from Presbyterian Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center have put together a team of professionals to meet this issue head on with an all-male panel discussion, “Guy Talk: The Woman In My Life Has Breast Cancer.” The event will take place on Wednesday, April 21, from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Presbyterian Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center, 242 South Colonial Avenue, Charlotte, N.C..28207 (www.presbyterian.org/buddykemp). Following a light dinner from 5:30 – 6:00 p.m., the panel will begin at 6:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Men can register by calling the Presbyterian Care Line at 704-384-CARE.
Joining Dr. Criswell on the panel will be equally respected physicians in the Charlotte community:
• Dr. Marshal Parsons of Carolina Surgical Clinic,
• Dr. James Boyd of Oncology Specialists of Charlotte,
• Dr. Joe Parisi, a Licensed Psychologist, of Charlotte Behavioral Health Associates
• Rounding out the discussion will be a husband of one of Dr. Criswell’s patients who will his personal perspective as his wife went through extensive treatment fighting this disease.
Dr. Bryan Criswell created this event as a public service to the men in his community. “There’s only such much information and support you can get from the internet,” notes Dr. Criswell. “The men in our community want to be pro-active in providing care for their wives, mothers, sisters, even their daughters. They want to know about all the resources available and have their questions answered in a personal forum. This event is designed to create an informal and informational dialogue in responding to their concerns and questions.”
