CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Presbyterian Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center will host a program entitled Women, Intimacy and Cancer on March 3, 2010, from 6-8 p.m.
Women, Intimacy and Cancer is a program designed for women diagnosed with cancer and focuses on issues related to body image and emotional and physical adaptations to encourage intimacy with their partner. The speaker panel includes Dr. Lisa Turrell of Sensovi and Barbara Green, licensed physical therapist.
There are many aspects of coping with cancer that frequently are discussed, but intimacy is one that does not get much attention. However the changes are very real, especially when talking about body image. The physical changes a woman will experience are considerable, leaving her not only in pain or with little to no energy, but also feeling less than attractive. Women often wonder how they can deal with cancer and still keep the intimacy in their relationship or how cancer will affect their relationship in general. Many times these questions often go unanswered because women don’t know where to turn.
“Women don’t realize that there is help for physical problems related to sexual intercourse after cancer,” said Green. “There are many simple and effective treatments that yield significant results for the muscle and tissue. The success rate in those receiving treatment is phenomenal.”
Dinner will be served and there is no cost for this event. To register call: 704-384-CARE and mention Women, Intimacy and Cancer. Presbyterian Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center is located at 242 S. Colonial Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28204.
