CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Presbyterian Healthcare partnered with the Mexican Consulate’s office on January 23, 2010 to provide health education and administer H1N1 and flu vaccinations while clients waited for their documents to be processed. The mobile outreach event, held at a facility off Tyvola Road, attracted over 1,000 people.
Several departments worked together to collect the necessary health materials in Spanish, as well as supplies and vaccinations. The Presbyterian Hospital Community Care Cruiser, a mobile health clinic for un/underinsured youth, was brought on site to provide a location for the services rendered. Community Relations helped get nurses to administer the vaccines and Presbyterian’s Health Ministry provided interpreters.
With the help of approximately 65 volunteers, including 40 nursing students from Queens University, a total of 312 vaccines were administered.
“It was amazing how everyone rallied together in such a short amount of time,” said Denise Shirhall, community relations. “The departments involved went above and beyond to ensure this was a remarkable event. The Consulate praised our efforts and mentioned partnering together in the future.”
