A child's hospitalization can be a very scary and overwhelming experience for the entire family. Our Certified Child Life Specialists are trained in child development and the affects of hospitalization on children. They are experts at helping children and their families maintain a sense of normal living patterns and minimizing psychological trauma during hospitalization.

The Child Life Specialist's role includes:

Preparing children for and assisting during medical tests and procedures through education, medical play and coping skill development

Supervising therapeutic and diversional play

Supporting families during hospitalization

Coordinating special events and holiday-themed parties

Serving as a resource for questions about child development and parenting
Child life is here to help in many areas of the hospital, including:
- Pediatrics
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
- Pediatric Emergency Department
- Presbyterian Blume Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Clinic
- Neonatal Intensive Care
- Outpatient surgery
