Unparalleled Children's Care

Presbyterian Hospital established a pediatric unit in the early 1950's based on the belief that children require special care when they are hospitalized. Today, Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital continues this belief and is dedicated to providing children and their families compassion in a family-centered environment. An environment that recognizes the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of every child and every family member. The comprehensive variety of services assures that all children's needs are met from the time of admission until the time go home.

Family-Centered Care

At Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital, we practice Family-Centered Care, which recognizes parents and legal guardians as equal partners with our healthcare team. Active participation in your child's care is highly encouraged, and our private patient rooms allow you to room-in with your child so that you will never be far away. Our family-friendly rooms feature a parent bed, private bathroom, television, VCR/DVD player and a kitchen area with microwave and mini-fridge.

Through a Child's Eyes

With physicians working closely with devoted nurses, child life specialists and other clinicians, Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital excels at treating nearly every childhood illness. To ease treatment fear and minimize stress, every staff member approaches patient care through the eyes of a child. Experts speak to children at eye level. Nurses and other clinicians are specially trained in pediatric care and are sensitive to children's special needs.

Child Life Services

Child Life Specialists are members of the healthcare team who are sensitive to, and focus on, the needs of hospitalized children. The Child Life Specialist team works to ensure pediatric patients experience a sense of normalcy whenever possible while at the hospital. They use toys and games to help patients find a positive distraction during procedures, in bed, or when a sibling comes to visit.
