Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal SwitchThis procedure is a variation of Biliopancreatic Diversion (BPD) in which stomach removal is restricted to the outer margin, leaving a sleeve of stomach with the pylorus and the beginning of the duodenum at its end. The duodenum, the first portion of the small intestine, is divided so that pancreatic and bile drainage is bypassed. The near end of the "alimentary limb" is then attached to the beginning of the duodenum, while the "common limb" is created in the same way as in BPD. Exercise ConsultIndividualized consults with a cardiovascular lifestyle specialist. Patients will receive assistance developing a healthy, individualized exercise program. Exercise Physiology TestingExercise testing can provide valuable and objective insights into a patient's cardiopulmonary condition and capacity. There are different types of exercise tests that may be performed, depending on the questions that need to be answered. Exercise tests usually are performed on a stationary bicycle or a treadmill. Exercise TherapyIndividual consultations with an exercise physiologist. Patients will be assisted with developing or enhancing a safe, effective exercise program. Group CounselingTherapy technique which includes interaction among group members with a counselor or other leader.
Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric BandingLaparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (AGB) involves attaching an inflatable band around the top portion of the stomach and tightening it like a belt to form a small pouch that serves as a new, much smaller stomach. After the procedure, the diameter of the band around the stomach can be adjusted by a physician by adding or removing saline (salt water). Nutrition CounselingDeveloping a heart-healthy eating plan can help you reduce your cholesterol and maintain a healthy body weight, both of which are important in the prevention of heart disease. Nutrition counseling provides individual consultations with a nutritionist designed to create a healthy eating plan that is right for you. The nutritionist will review your blood lipid profile, discuss your current eating patterns and provide you with educational materials on foods that will lower your cardiovascular disease risk. Nutrition PlanningNutrition services offer an opportunity to receive expert advice from a dietitian. A diet analysis and consultation will benefit you whether you are looking to control weight loss or gain, implement a health eating pattern, or looking for a plan to assist in the prevention of disease. Pain Management and TreatmentPain management and treatment options address the whole person, not just the site of the pain. Options may include: occupational therapy, physical therapy, pain psychology, biofeedback, integrated mind-body pain program, medication management, social work, patient-controlled analgesia, epidural injections, procedural treatments, and/or implantable technologies.
Roux-En-Y Gastric BypassRoux-en-Y gastric bypass (RGB), the most commonly performed bariatric procedure, is both malabsorptive and restrictive. The procedure involves stapling the stomach to create a small pouch that holds less food and then shaping a portion of the small intestine into a "Y." The "Y" portion of intestine is then connected to the stomach pouch so that when food is being digested it travels directly into the lower part of the small intestine, bypassing the first part of the small intestine (called the duodenum) and the first part of the second section of the small intestine (called the jejunum). The effect of bypassing these sections of the intestine is to restrict the amount of calories and nutrients that are absorbed into the body. Support Group MeetingsA support group is a group of people with common experiences and concerns who provide emotional and moral support for one another. Vertical Sleeve GastrectomyThis procedure generates weight loss solely through gastric restriction (reduced stomach volume). The stomach is restricted by stapling and dividing it vertically and removing more than 85% of it. This part of the procedure is not reversible. The stomach that remains is shaped like a very slim banana and measures from 1-5 ounces, depending on the surgeon performing the procedure. The nerves to the stomach and the outlet valve (pylorus) remain intact with the idea of preserving the functions of the stomach while drastically reducing the volume. Weight Loss NavigatorA specially trained registered nurse will walk you through each step of the bariatric surgery process. From helping you find the doctor that best suits your needs to providing helpful nutritional advice after surgery, your navigator will be with you throughout your journey.
