Annual PhysicalsA "preventative care" physician visit during which standard health tests are performed, depending on gender and age. Tests may include things such as blood pressure, a breast and/or pelvic exam, prostate exam, cholesterol screening, vaccines or booster shots. Check-UpsA brief preventative care visit with a physician or a visit to address a minor or on-going health concern. Cholesterol TestingCholesterol screening is performed by a blood test. Persons with high cholesterol measurements from a blood sample tend to have a higher risk for coronary heart disease than those with cholesterol in the normal range. Studies have demonstrated that persons with high cholesterol can reduce their risk for heart disease by lowering their cholesterol. It is important to understand, however, that people can still have heart disease even with cholesterol levels in the normal range. Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG)An electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is one of the simplest and fastest procedures used to evaluate the heart. Electrodes (small, plastic patches) are placed at certain locations on the chest, arms and legs. When the electrodes are connected to an ECG machine by lead wires, the electrical activity of the heart is measured, interpreted and printed out for the physician's information and further interpretation. Medication ManagementImproving patient compliance with physician medication orders by utilizing improved communications between the patient, pharmacist, and physician. SpirometrySpirometry is the most common of the Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs), measuring lung function, specifically the measurement of the amount (volume) and/or speed (flow) of air that can be inhaled and exhaled. Spirometry is an important tool in assessing conditions such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, and COPD.
