Contraceptive ManagementProvides information regarding the various forms of contraception and can assist in determining which method is best for you. Diabetes TreatmentDiabetes is a condition where the pancreas is unable to produce insulin or does not effectively use the insulin that is produced. Insulin is a hormone that removes glucose (blood sugar) from the blood and delivers it to the body's cells for fuel. Diabetes is a chronic disease for which there is no cure. Once someone has diabetes, the only treatment is ongoing management of the symptoms through meal planning, weight control, exercise, stress reduction and medication.
Echocardiogram (Echo)An echocardiogram (also known as an Echo) is a noninvasive (the skin is not pierced) procedure used to assess the heart's function and structures. During the procedure, a transducer (like a microphone) sends out ultrasonic sound waves at a frequency too high to be heard. When the transducer is placed on the chest at certain locations and angles, the ultrasonic sound waves move through the skin and other body tissues to the heart tissues, where the waves echo off of the heart structures. The transducer picks up the reflected waves and sends them to a computer. The computer interprets the echoes into an image of the heart walls and valves. Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG)An electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is one of the simplest and fastest procedures used to evaluate the heart. Electrodes (small, plastic patches) are placed at certain locations on the chest, arms and legs. When the electrodes are connected to an ECG machine by lead wires, the electrical activity of the heart is measured, interpreted and printed out for the physician's information and further interpretation. Menopausal CareCare for women who have reached the time in their life in which the menstrual cycle ends. Osteoporosis CareTreatment of osteoporosis, a disease, occurring especially in women following menopause, in which the bones become extremely porous and are subject to fracture. Pap TestA Pap test (also called Pap smear) involves microscopic examination of cells collected from the cervix, used to detect changes that may be cancer or may lead to cancer, and to show noncancerous conditions, such as infection or inflammation. Pelvic ExamDuring a pelvic examination, a physician examines the uterus, vagina, ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder and rectum. SpirometrySpirometry is the most common of the Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs), measuring lung function, specifically the measurement of the amount (volume) and/or speed (flow) of air that can be inhaled and exhaled. Spirometry is an important tool in assessing conditions such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, and COPD.
Sports Medicine ProceduresThe field of medicine concerned with physical fitness and the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of injuries sustained in sports or exercise. Stress TestingStress testing (usually with ECG; also called treadmill or exercise ECG) is a test that is given while a patient walks on a treadmill or pedals a stationary bike to monitor the heart during exercise. Breathing and blood pressure rates are also monitored. A stress test may be used to detect coronary artery disease, and/or to determine safe levels of exercise following a heart attack or heart surgery. UltrasoundAn ultrasound, also called sonography, is a diagnostic imaging technique which uses high-frequency sound waves and a computer to create images of blood vessels, tissues and organs. Ultrasounds are used to view internal organs as they function, and to assess blood flow through various vessels.
