We will begin accepting applications from October 1, 2011 to January 15, 2012 for the class beginning in July 2012. Please see the Admissions Application page for more information.

The Presbyterian Radiologic Technology Program is located at Presbyterian Hospital and combines clinical experience with classroom instruction. The curriculum follows the approved standard developed by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT).

The full-time program begins each July. Students study anatomy, patient positioning, equipment protocols and operating principles, computer applications, radiation protection and patient care.

Clinical Experience

Through a combination of learning experiences with inpatients and outpatients, in the emergency room and in the operating room, students attain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of radiologic technology. Students benefit from using state-of-the-art digital imaging equipment and working side by side with radiologists and experienced radiologic technologists.

Clinical experience is gained at the hospital and Presbyterian Healthcare imaging centers. The majority of assignments are first shift; however, completion of second shift trauma assignments is required.

Certificate

Upon successful completion of all classroom and clinical education experiences, graduates will receive a certificate in radiologic technology from Presbyterian Hospital. Graduates are eligible to take the registry examination given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. To those who pass the examination, a certificate is issued which confers upon that individual the right to use the title "Registered Radiologic Technologist" and its abbreviation, "RT(R)(ARRT)."

The Profession

Radiologic technologists work closely with radiologists and medical staff to obtain high-quality images for use in diagnosing, and even treating, various diseases and injuries.

The technologist positions the patient, sets exposure factors on the control panel and records an image of the patient's internal body structure. The radiologist then interprets the image.

Although most radiologic technologists work in hospitals, positions are available in clinics, physician offices, industry, civil service, education, public health and in the sales and service of radiographic equipment. Salaries and other duties vary by postion and employment location.

Accreditation

The Presbyterian Radiologic Technology Program is a 23-month program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Learn more about JRCERT.
