Volunteer Opportunities

For an entire century, volunteers have been providing much-needed help throughout Presbyterian Healthcare. We are always seeking new volunteers who enjoy interacting with people and serving others.

Volunteer Programs at Presbyterian

For Adults:

The volunteer program at Presbyterian Healthcare can find its roots in the Presbyterian Hospital Auxiliary, which began in 1924 during a time when Presbyterian Hospital was struggling for survival. Hospital Superintendent C.C. Beam, a Presbyterian minister, called on the women of Charlotte-Mecklenburg's Presbyterian churches for help, and he wasn't disappointed.

Today, volunteers serve in many departments within Presbyterian Hospital, Presbyterian Hospital Matthews, Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville and Presbyterian Orthopaedic Hospital. We are always seeking new volunteers who enjoy interacting with people and serving others.

Adult volunteers may:

  • Visit patients to ask about non-medical needs and offer emotional support
  • Serve as reception and information clerks
  • Assist visitors and patients with directions
  • Transport patients throughout the hospitals
  • Assist in hospital gift shops

Each volunteer completes an application, has an interview with the Director of Volunteer Services or the Volunteer Coordinator, attends an orientation class, completes a health screening and receives training in the designated area before he or she begins to volunteer.

For Teens:

For teens ages 14-18, our Junior Volunteer Program offers an opportunity to serve after school and during the summer. They are trained and supervised by an experienced Junior Volunteer Coordinator. College students also donate their time during the school year and summer by serving in a variety of departments where they can observe the delivery of healthcare services to patients and families.  Learn more.
