It's back-to-school time!  That means thousands of un- and underinsured students will need access to immunizations and physicals.  Check out our Back-to-School Days schedule to find a clinic near you!

What is it?

The Presbyterian Hospital Community Care Cruiser is a 40-foot mobile clinic that serves as a doctor's office and provides comprehensive primary and preventive medical care to youth (ages 0-17) who can not afford it.

The cruiser is led by a medical director, pediatric nurse practitioner, nursing staff and social worker and visits identified underserved areas of the community to offer the following pediatric services:

  • Developmental screening
  • Primary care
  • Immunizations
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Disease diagnosis
  • Preventive education
  • Asthma prevention and treatment
  • Community resource referrals

Patient records are maintained and updated, which will allow Presbyterian to provide a continuum of care by establishing a medical history and opportunity for follow-up.

Why is it needed?

Nationwide, the workforce is suffering from a reduction or elimination of benefits.  In fact, one in nine children in North Carolina lack health insurance, and more than 37,000 are on the list for subsidies.

The Cruiser creates a win-win situation for the entire community by decreasing non-reimbursed costs and unneccessary ER visits, and by improving the health of our youth.

How will it work?

Presbyterian Hospital collaborates with interested parties to ensure the best possible resource is put into place.

The Cruiser works with places of worship, schools and other support groups to promote the clinic and provide easy access for youth who need its services.

Presbyterian Hospital works with its Parish Nursing Program to establish strong working relationships in the communities we already serve.  Through this collaborative effort, we believe we maximize our impact.

How can I support it?

Many partnerships and donor opportunities are available through Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation.  After all, the Cruiser's potential can only be maximized through community-wide support.

Call the Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation to find out more about donor opportunities: 704-384-4048.
