CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Many people hold their physician in high esteem; however few go so far as to deem him or her a hero. In the case of Pediatric Hematologist-Oncologist Mark Mogul, any designation less than that of a hero would not seem appropriate.
Mogul was one of three community heroes recognized during Saturday's inaugural My Hero Gala, hosted by the Charlotte Bobcats and benefitting the Presbyterian Hospital Community Care Cruiser. Touted by peers and Presbyterian Hospital leadership as a remarkably compassionate physician and friend, Mogul has earned a laudable reputation among both the medical and patient communities.
After a surprise video presentation highlighting Mogul's feats, Presbyterian Healthcare COO Lynn Boggs presented him with the My Hero award. "Dr Mogul embodies our hospitals mission to provide a remarkable patient experience in every dimension, every time," remarked Boggs. "We feel blessed to have such a true hero caring for our children and providing leadership for the hospital."
Despite the well-deserved praise, Dr. Mogul remained humble and focused. "I do it for the kids," he said during his award presentation. "I was put on this earth to do what I do, and I cant fathom ever doing anything else."
Dr. Mogul came to Charlotte in 2003 to work at Presbyterian Blume Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Clinic. Since his arrival, the clinic has grown to see the second largest volume of patients in the state and has added two physicians to accommodate such growth. He currently serves as the chairperson of Presbyterian's pediatric department and serves on the board of the March forth with Hope Foundation, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and Foundation for the Carolinas. Organizations such as Kiwanis, Make-A-Wish, Hope Cancer Ministries and Godstock also benefit from his dedication to making a difference in the lives of children.
When not practicing medicine, Dr. Mogul enjoys spending time with his wife, Robin, and son, Christopher.
