Charlotte, N.C. -- Presbyterian Hospice and Palliative Care will host "Handling the Holidays," a class that focuses on celebrating the holidays after the loss of a loved one, Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007 at the McGill Rose Garden from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The class will teach participants how to manage the holiday season after the loss of a loved one and will be offered on three separate dates in various locations.
"The toughest time for people is seeing that empty seat at a Thanksgiving or holiday dinner. The first year after the loss of a loved one, there is a lot of looking back saying, This time last year, said Cindy Lyman, bereavement coordinator for Presbyterian Hospice and Palliative Care. "Our anticipation is that, through this class, participants are less intimidated by the thought of "the holidays." Their families will be for them that glimmer of hope they need during this year's holiday season." This is the fourth year that Presbyterian Hospice and Palliative Care has hosted "Handling the Holidays."
Led by Lyman and additional bereavement facilitators, the
program helps participants realize that their sadness during the holidays are normal. The program will feature discussions on managing feelings during the holiday months, opportunities to share thoughts with other class members and a closing ceremony of hope.
