Charlotte, N.C. -- The Charlotte Bobcats and Presbyterian Hospital announced their joint commitment to the newly established Presbyterian Hospital Community Care Cruiser. The Community Care Cruiser, which will debut in the fall, is a 40-foot mobile clinic providing primary and preventive medical care to youth who can not afford it. This important partnership is one component of the Bobcats Youth Foundation's initiatives. The Foundation is dedicated to three main pillars; Health and Wellness, Fitness and Recreation and Education.
The Bobcats Youth Foundation has committed $500,000 over a five-year period to help bring this program to life. This initiative addresses the alarming disparity in the health among America's low-income children. It will provide education, health care tools and increased access to health professionals to children and teens in Mecklenburg County.
"We feel very strongly about the mission of the Community Care Cruiser," said Fred Whitfield, President & Chief Operating Officer of Charlotte Bobcats Sports and Entertainment. "As a leader in healthcare, Presbyterian can provide the tools, knowledge and access to healthcare professionals that will affect positive change in the health of our community's children."
"We are thrilled about the commitment the Charlotte Bobcats have made to the Cruiser and to the community," said Lynn Boggs, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of Presbyterian Healthcare. "Our relationship with the Bobcats is truly a partnership in every sense of the word," said Boggs, "We look forward to working together to bring this project to life."
To further demonstrate the importance of the Community Care Cruiser, the Bobcats announced plans to host an annual black tie event, with proceeds directly supporting this health initiative. This year's kick-off event will be called "My Hero Gala" and will be held at the Charlotte Convention Center on October 27, 2007. Bobcats players, coaches and top executives will recognize their personal 'hero' at this star-studded gala. Rounding out the evening will be dinner, dancing, a silent auction featuring priceless auction experiences and entertainment by national recording artists. "This event will not only be a great tip off of the Bobcats 2007-08 season, but will be an event that Charlotte will be proud to call one of its own." said Whitfield.
Bobcats Sports and Entertainment, through the Bobcats Youth Foundation is committed to improving the quality of life for children in the Carolinas. Through strong community partnerships, Bobcats Sports and Entertainment looks to invest in Charlotte's future and increase opportunities for those with the greatest needs.
